Teacher Advice

Studies report that newborns exhibit signs that show they recognize sounds which they heard in the utero. By reading during pregnancy, you are exposing your unborn baby to sounds they will eventually hear after their birth.

There is also an association with the music that you listen to. One of the participants in Danielle’s study read to her toddler while she was pregnant. After the baby was born, the mother asked if she could conduct the study again with her newborn. At 22 days old, the baby appeared to recognize the stories being read.

It is so important to keep learning fun. If you or your child gets frustrated stop and do something else. We do NOT want to turn them off from learning. I usually recommend that they come home from school, have a snack and some down time, and then do homework. Have a structured schedule so they know the routine on their own. Learning opportunities are everywhere, from sorting the socks by colors and counting the steps in your house! Keep it fun!
